SharePoint 2016 Beta 2 – Closing the loop with enhanced usability

Just a few months after Microsoft released its SharePoint server 2016 Beta 1 i.e. IT Preview, it launched the last public beta releases – SharePoint Server 2016 Beta 2 and Project Server 2016 Beta 2, on 18th November just one week before the Thanksgiving.

In the OfficeBlogs, SharePoint team stated that the latest four enhancements are primarily focused on updating existing features, and incorporating feedback and improvement received the from IT preview, released in August 2015. Most of these improvements have also been made focusing on hybrid scenarios.

Java Topples C in Language Popularity Index

Warning: This post can hit C folks like a TON of BRICKS!

But, don’t worry! It’s a cat and a mouse chase in the programming world, especially when it comes to Object Oriented Programming (OOP) Java and C language w.r.t *Tiobe’s index.

History Repeats!

Back in 2013, Java made headlines by moving past C to lead the Tiobe’s index. It repeated this feat after more than one and a half years recently, thanks to Android!!

The Tiobe index is updated monthly and since April 2015 till end August, Java has been enjoying the top spot. Java is also steadily widening the gap with the number two contender C on a month-on-month basis. Now, it is almost 4.5% ahead of C which is at 14.7%.

The top position was held by C for a long-time (for nearly two years) until recently challenged by Java. Experts like Paull Krill favor the growing popularity of Android as one of the reasons for its resurrection.  However, the, fact is, the revamped new avatar of Java 8 which was released with expressive features and functionalities in 2014 cannot be ignored.

So, who’s behind Java’s popularity?

Android’s Growing Adoption

 Android accounted for about 83% of smartphones sold in the second quarter of 2015, according to IDC. From Kitkat in 2013 to Jellybean and Marshmallow, Android is racing ahead.  However, barely 18% of current Android devices are using the most current version of the software, launched in 2014. Nearly three-quarters of Android’s user base are still on the KitKat and Jelly Bean versions launched two and three years ago, respectively. What does this signal?.. #goodnews


#goodnews.. As the three-quarter users upgrade to a newer version, Java’s popularity is set to remain steadily on top for some more time, until C does some magic.

  • Tiobe –A company based in Netherland specializes in assessing and tracking software’s quality across the globe. Its programming community index is compiled based on a formula that factors into 25 search engines such as Google, Bing, Yahoo, Amazon, Wikipedia, Baidu etc.  to calculate its ranking. Note: The Tiobe’s ranking doesn’t reflect which is the best programming language or the language in which most numbers of codes were written. But, it is based on skilled engineers world-wide, courses and third party vendors.

“G11N” Testing– A key aspect of Software Product Testing

“G11N” or Globalization testing is more relevant today than it was earlier and is a key aspect of software product testing. • Default Size of Paper for printing

Apart from usual elements tested like platforms, cross-browser compatibility, language settings, translation capabilities, etc.”

I asked how was he able to minutely define such details which are often missed out in Globalization testing. He replied –

“One gets to know about various nuances of Globalization testing or for that matter another testing when one works for a particular case and the level he drills into. In our case, we had a chance to perform globalization testing for a web-based product involved in an online transaction using 25 different currencies. Also, product testing was done to ensure that mobile users in 70 countries can recharge their currency and perform money transfer without any problem across countries.”

Mr. Ashwin also suggested some of the best practices while performing Globalization Testing as follows:

Step1: Analyze the globalization requirements in detail like the culture, standards etc.

Step 2: Ensure application seamlessly integrates with the locale/language

Step 3: Ensure application and database are able to capture and store all special characters, italics, accentuated character sets specific to the language to be supported

Step 4: Ensure there is proper formatting of dates, currencies etc. as applicable

Step 5: Ensure proper conversion rates as applicable in case of currencies

 2. Automatic XML Sitemap Generation 

During the crawl process, it becomes increasingly difficult for search engines to identify your webpages that have Ajax elements, rich images or are poorly linked with each other. The best way to notify search engines is to use XML Sitemap. An XML Sitemap is a protocol that notify search engines about website’s URL that is available for crawling. Search engines like Google rely on XML Sitemaps to discover content on your website or to check periodic updates that need to be indexed.

It becomes increasingly difficult to create XML Sitemap manually and ping search engines regularly for periodic content updates.  SharePoint 2013 server helps automatically generate XML Sitemap daily for you and also ensure that the XML is up-to-date.

America Does “CARE” – But ACOs have Real Time IT Challenges

Hot on the heels of healthcare revolution in the U.S., the ACO model has been gathering steam lately. Dominantly ignited by factors like under-performing healthcare system and higher care cost, ACO model came as a sort of respite for the U.S. populace. According to a recent study conducted by a management consulting firm, there are about 25 to 31 million Americans who are currently receiving health care services from an Accountable Care Organization (ACO) and more than 40% of Americans live in areas with at least one ACO. The numbers are rising steadily. However, there are still operational bottlenecks that are pervasive and deter caregivers to join the ACO force.
